Links to aliases don't show up in {incoming-links} macro

Steps to replicate:
1. Create a page "Cat"
2. Add an alias {alias:cats} to this page
3. Add an {incoming-links} section to list links to the Cat page
4. From another page (e.g. "Animals") make a link to [cats]
5. View the list of linked pages on Cat and notice that Animals is not listed.

I'm not sure if this is really a bug, or maybe more of a feature request, because I understand that internally the alias is really creating a separate page, making it more difficult for something like {incoming-links} to work right.

Thanks!
